Communicating via blog is an unprecedented tool used by a professor (at least from my experience). I feel it did indeed grant us the benefit of speaking to our classmates in ways we couldn’t have otherwise. The only problem that I have noticed is that most of the times, I actually do not know who I have responded to due to many factors: picture too small, unrecognizable face, no picture at all, etc. I feel a more effective way to handle this would be to hold a discussion the day after between the individual who posted and the people who have responded. This way, we can get to know our classmates better and be able to express face to face how we felt about their blog and hear out their answers. Of course, this would mean to limit the blog entries since it would take up most of class, but I don’t see diluting the amount of blogs to be such a big problem. To avoid overloading one group with too many respondents, the professor can assign people to reply to specific blogs that way everybody in the group has come across each other in some way. With this, all the classmates will be able to discuss their individual blogs with each other and possibly build a friendship that extends outside of the class.
Personally, I have enjoyed very much writing about the class acrtivites and seeing what my classmates have to say about my entry. I plan on continuing the blog after the semester and hope to keep in touch with my classmates and professor. Maybe even 10 years from now we can discuss the “Vision” video and the impact it has had on my life!

I agree, a lot of times it was tough realizing who you were talking to with the vague pictures people have on blogspot. Even with your picture, I still can't tell who you are.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it would be a great idea if we all reflected on the vision video in a couple of years to see what impact it had on us. Although something like that would be tough to organize, I would be interested in seeing the results of that.
haha i agree and also disagree with you. I agree in the sense that i am one of your followers and yet i haven't spoke a word to you in class. And with the mini thumb size pictures its really hard for me to see who is who, especially for someone blind like me.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, meeting with everyone that responded to my blog would be really exciting. I get to see the great people that actually respond and have read my posts. However, this takes a lot of extra time out of class. Its not a bad idea though.....it might work and im sure it will be fun for everybody!

ReplyDeleteits goo that you will be continuing the blog after class is over. i find it a bit out of my style to have my own but i like looking at others
ReplyDeleteI find your thoughts very interesting and true. I believe your idea of setting up "teams" of bloggers who are required to respond to each other is a very good one. It's true that many of the people who I have responded to, I do not know, such as you. However, your idea would make much more sense. Hopefully, the professor takes this into consideration for the following semester.
