After watching the video “The Power of Vision” in Management class the other day, I was sooooo inspired that I just had to blog about it. I must say it was even better than Seven Pounds… seriously…Joel Arthur Barker who stars in this short film undeniably deserves a Grammy. Did you guys see him fling that star fish ever so elegantly as he pranced upon the beach? Amazing…
All this would’ve not been possible without “vision,” which is the key to having anything accomplished because:
Vision without action is just a dream.
Action without vision merely wastes time.
Vision coupled with action can make things happen!
Having been so inspired by this film I have compiled a list of things that I see or envision myself accomplishing in the future.
1). First and foremost, the reason why I am in Baruch and the reason I am majoring in Marketing, is for the simple fact that I will one day become the Head Buyer for either Gucci or Mr. Louis Vuitton.
I’ve been in the retail business for over 3 years and have grown to love the art of fashion retail and everything that it entails. Selecting the right products to display is pertinent in grasping the consumer’s attention and ultimately resulting to a sale. For this reason, I have devoted my life to merchandising and providing the products that would maximize sales while pleasing the customer’s needs/wants. To make this vision reality I am currently working on obtaining an internship in Europe where I will be able to witness first-hand the foundation of all this. I have already built a small network of previous and current employees at each of the respective companies and speak to them regularly. The track that I am on, I see myself reaching my goal in the near future.
2) When I was in maybe 3rd grade? I drew up a “dream home,” according to my mom, which consisted of a gigantic backyard complete with a pool/Jacuzzi etc. It even came with a family dog surprisingly. And according to this lady, I’ve promised that when I grow up and become successful, I would purchase her this home exactly the way I drew it. Now if my memory is correct, I do not recall saying any of this, but hey what can I do now lol. All jokes aside, my mom definitely deserves this “dream home” and I will one day purchase it for her. To do this, I will have to hit the lottery or end up finding a ton of money, or if I’m realistic I will slowly save up and sacrifice buying my first home in light of hers.
3) Personally, for my self-pleasure, sometime in the future I would love to be apart of a big-hit movie. It has always been a dream of mine to act and take role in that one movie where people are continuously gossiping about how amazing it was. This is the one vision that may seem far-fetched but anything is possible. Maybe if my goal mentioned previously of becoming the head buyer of a fashion powerhouse were to come true, I may have built a big enough network to get contacts in the entertainment industry, which at that level I’m pretty sure would not be that hard. And if I do end up making it on the big screen, this would provide me with enough funds to fulfill my mother’s expectation. See, if all goes well each vision will lead to the success of another!
These are the three visions that have always been wandering in the back of my mind. I’ve finally come to express them thanks to the starfish thrower. One thing I have noticed is that I would rather not cloud myself with too many visions, doing this would blur and obstruct my view, eventually leading to my failure. (Mr. Joel Arthur Barker was also the inspiration behind that previous analogy). Instead, I shall focus on the main 3 and develop more once they have all been fulfilled.

Cho,
ReplyDeleteI also share a similar dream that you have. I would love to buy my mother a big house. But at my current pace its not going to happen. I think you are doing the same things I do. That is think of to many dreams at once. I think the best course of action is to decide upon your true dream and follow it. I heard Donald Trump say something that has stuck with me. He said that the most successful people are the people who are doing what they love. So to them it really isn't work. For example he (DT) like realestate so much that, that's all he thins about. To him its not really work. I think i need to focus on one think i really like also. And just live and sleep that dream. Good Luck.
Iceman,
ReplyDeleteYea I listed the visions I had in order of desire and preference to complete. And as I stated in the blog each vision leads to the possibility of the other. What Donald Trump stated is heavily related to specialization. Do what you like to do or do what you do best and life would be much more enjoyable. I've come to the realization that I don't care about how much money I will be making (as long as I will be able to sustain). If I am enjoying my career and have accomplished my ultimate goal(s), then I will be sure to feel content with life. Thanks for your support!

I like your vision of having a "dream home" with all the amenities you can think of. I have read a number of blogs for this class and they are a couple including me who have dreams of having owning a house that they can call home one day. Go for it, it is really nice to have a home of your own and it is quite achievable. Don't forget the barbeque set for summer parties. :)
ReplyDeleteI remember drawing myself a dream house, but my mom never asked me to buy her that dream house that i drew. She said she didn't like it (haha) that don't mean i will not have to buy her one. She constantly brings up the question "Where is that nice house of mine?" I'm sure you have heard something similar, or your mom would bring up the "house" in a joke tone. I always thought it was a pressure but at the same time it pushes me to do something to just get her that house already. Whether i am successful or not, i will eventually save up money to buy her "her dream house".
ReplyDeleteLet's wish each other luck on buying our parents houses =]
it seems you know what u are looking for and your vision is well set. it appears you have good background knowledge on the subject so your actions will likely be smart ones.
ReplyDeleteby reading your blog, i can tell your vision for the future is pretty clear, which is really good. I think you have done something very right -- to start early in life. My boss always expresses his feeling that he'd like to enter the industry earlier in his life, so that he would have more time and energy invest in it. The picture would have been a totally different ones. Work hard on yours, you will get what you want, or at least get closer day by day, good luck =)
ReplyDeleteI see you have thought well about your vision. I am similar in wanting to one day own a big home, I think most of us would agree on that vision as well. By reading your blogs, I can definitely see you achieving those goals one day; you seem like a very dedicated individual.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your vision!
I too am a marketing major and really like your vision. You seem to know what you want and especially you are taking action by trying to obtain an internship in Europe. That's really great. Best of Luck with that. Also that you are willing to sacrifice your own house for your mom's dream house is very nice. It's okay if you cannot purchase your own house because you can do as your mother did to you and you can then tell your child to buy your dream house! :)
ReplyDeletehaha.. great analogy. I didn't think of it that way. Yes I will definitely pull the same trick on my child lol. I'll throw in a helicopter and luxury car at that right?
ReplyDeleteI like your vision of wanting to act in a block buster movie. Maybe you could audition for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
ReplyDeleteVery good goals, I admire the fact that your on your way to completing the first one. Also, it must feel great to know what you want to do and thrive to achieve it. If you continue in the direction your going you will achieve all your goals.
ReplyDeleteI think your visions are well ordered from most to least realistic/important. I think that the first vision is the one you should focus the most on right now, because it seems that you are definitely on the right path towards accomplishing the first one. Once that has been accomplished, buying the dream house (though i don't recommend you get a jacuzzi...i hear they are bacteria-baths) will become a lot easier. The last one is a little unrealistic, but its always good to dream. Im sure accomplishment of your first goal will make it seem a lot more realistic.

ReplyDeletei agree with ameer. all of your visions can be accomplished but only with completing one before it. it seems you are already on a good path and you will surely attain each goal you have set.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you think. BIG. There are many details in your dreams and you seem very passionate and willing to do what is needed. I must agree with the other replys in that you should try to achieve one at a time. I'm pretty sure you didn't mean that you were going to do all of these great feats at the same time, but just incase.lol
